Here’s a step-by-step guide for a Singaporean to apply for the IBLM (International Board of Lifestyle Medicine) examination and certification: Overview:

 

The IBLM certification is the global standard for lifestyle medicine professionals. It certifies knowledge and competency in evidence-based lifestyle interventions to prevent, treat, and reverse chronic disease. Step 1: Understand Eligibility Requirements

 

Minimum Criteria:

  • Medical doctors (MBBS/MD) or equivalent from a recognized institution.

  • Other health professionals (e.g. dietitians, nurses, physiotherapists, psychologists, pharmacists) may qualify for the Diplomate or Associate pathway via ACLM

 

Note for Singaporeans: IBLM recognizes international candidates who may not have a local board. Singapore does not yet have a dedicated IBLM board but you can apply via the IBLM International Pathway.


Step 2: Complete the Required 30-Hour training in Lifestyle Medicine Course

·       For non-US applicants: you can choose the non-CME version of the ACLM Board Review Course and use the certificate of completion, not a CME certificate.



Step 3: Gather your prerequisite 20h of (in-person or virtual) from an approved Event

 

Step 4: Submit a Case Study Case Study Requirements:

  • A written, real-life case where you applied lifestyle medicine interventions.

  • Template and guidelines are provided by IBLM upon registration.


What to include:

  • Patient background and presenting issue.

  • Lifestyle interventions used.

  • Outcomes and reflections.


Step 5: Apply for the Exam

How to Apply:

  • Visit: https://www.iblm.org

  • Go to Certification Pathway, “For Candidates” > “International Pathway”

  • Fill in the online application form.

  • Upload proof of:

• Medical/professional license

• Completion certificate

• Case study


Application Deadlines:

  • Applications usually close 1–2 months before exam dates. Remember to register before Sep 30

  • Exam typically held once a year, around October–November. This year,  it will be on Nov 22- Dec 7, 2025, Prometric testing centre


Fees:

  • Approx. USD 875–950 (varies by year)


Step 6: Prepare for the Exam

Exam Format:

  • 150 multiple-choice questions (Physicians) , 120 multiple-choice questions (healthcare professionals) , to complete within 4 hours.

Step 7: Sit for the Exam


Singapore Exam Options:

• You will receive detailed instructions from IBLM upon approval


Step 8: Receive Certification

  • Exam results are available between 10 and 20 days after the exam.

  • Upon passing, you’ll receive:

• IBLM Diplomate Certificate

• Your name listed in the IBLM Registry, and you are now a diplomate of the International Board of Lifestyle Medicine
