SGLM is pleased to highlight a featured article in the Singapore Medical Association (SMA) News (May 2026) titled “The Prescription of the Future: Integrating Lifestyle Medicine into Singaporean Clinical Practice.”
Authored by SGLM Board members, the article " “The Prescription of the Future: Integrating Lifestyle Medicine into Singaporean Clinical Practice.” reflects a timely shift in Singapore’s healthcare landscape, from reactive, treatment-based care towards preventive, patient-centred approaches.
The piece outlines how lifestyle medicine has evolved into a structured, evidence-based clinical framework. It is centred on six core pillars: nutrition, physical activity, sleep, stress management, avoidance of harmful substances, and social connection. These interventions address the root causes of chronic disease, offering a more sustainable pathway to improving long-term patient outcomes.
The contributors are Dr Miina Öhman, Dr Leonard Leng, Dr Maleena Suppiah,
Shrimathi Swaminathan and Dr Sundus Hussain-Morgan. They collectively bring deep expertise across clinical medicine, psychology, behavioural science, and nutrition, reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of lifestyle medicine and its application in real-world practice.
As Singapore advances initiatives such as Healthier SG, lifestyle medicine is positioned as a critical enabler of this transformation. SGLM remains committed to advancing education, research, and collaboration in this field.
