Frequently Asked Questions

Can I be a member of SGLM without taking the certification exam?  Yes. SGLM membership is open to those who have not pursued or completed IBLM certification.

Do I need to be licensed to practice to sit for the exam?  No. Licensure to practice in Singapore is not required for either Physicians or Master/PhD level health professionals.

What is the difference between registering as a Physician versus a health professional?  Physicians must hold an MD, MBBS or equivalent credential from a reputable university. Master/PhD health professionals must hold a PhD or Master's degree in a health-related discipline. If you hold a medical degree plus additional degrees, you must register as a "Physician." The IBLM certification pathway differs slightly between these two categories: Physicians must submit a Case Study, and Physician’s exam contains 30 more MCQ questions, including questions that are clinically relevant.

Is the registration fee refundable if I withdraw?  No. The registration fee is non-refundable.

Is the exam fee refundable?

In exceptional circumstances (e.g. medical emergencies or force majeure), the exam fee may be refunded on a case-by-case basis. SGLM only refunds the exam fee until one month before the exam date, i.e. 29 Oct 2026. Please contact the SGLM team directly if this applies to you.

What if I am unable to sit for the exam on the exam date?

If you know in advance that you will not be able to take the exam, please inform the SGLM team as soon as possible before the exam date. You may defer to the following year's sitting at no additional cost.

What happens if I pass the exam but have not completed all the prerequisites?  You will not receive certification. All prerequisites — proof of degree, 30h CME course, 20h event CME, and case study (for Physicians) must be submitted regardless of exam performance to become certified by IBLM.

What happens if I don't complete the Maintenance of Certification (LMMOC) after I'm certified?  LMMOC is an optional pathway that lets you maintain your certification without retaking the exam. If you choose not to follow it, you will need to retake the full certification exam every 10 years to remain certified.

When will I be invited to start the LMMOC process?  Invitations are sent in January following the year you receive your certification

I have questions about my application. Who do I contact?  Reach out to the SGLM team directly. They will guide you through the process and clarify any requirements.
